The Good Housekeeping Institute tests hundreds of products every year across the homes, food & drink, beauty & grooming, health & fitness and parenting categories. We’ve been rigorously reviewing products for over 100 years so that Good Housekeeping can recommend the best products on the market to their readers, from robot vacuums to running shoes. We’re looking for a homes writer to join the Good Housekeeping Institute content team, writing across home & garden.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As our Homes Writer, you will transform the work the testing team does into engaging, thumb-stopping content that expands Hearst’s online product review and ecommerce offering. You’ll be in the know on the latest launches and trends, and work with our testers to make sure we’re reviewing all the right products at the right time for our readers. You’ll be writing and creating shoppable video content across our print, digital and social platforms, bringing the GHI’s expertise and helpful advice to life wherever our readers are. You will report into the GHI’s head of content who is responsible for Good Housekeeping’s ecommerce revenue and product review content. Day to day, you will work closely with the Senior Homes & Lifestyle Writer to deliver product review content and analyse performance, using those insights to inform future testing. You will also work with the rest of Good Housekeeping’s editorial team, from the editor-in-chief to the social media manager, to ensure we’re delivering what our readers want.
Key Responsibilities
- Working with the GHI testing team to ensure we’re testing the right products for the Good Housekeeping brand.
- Select suitable products from our database to use in online buying guides and product roundups.
- Write informative and engaging product review roundups and buying guides across print and digital.
- Brainstorm creative new ways to present our testing results, from first-person pieces to video and wider seasonal roundups.
- Pitch content ideas to Good Housekeeping’s digital and print editors.
- Upload content to the content management system ready to be checked and published by the relevant editor.
- Ensure all content is fully optimised for ecommerce.
- Work with the SEO manager to ensure all content produced is fully optimised for SEO.
- Track and report back on success of content created, iterating on that success.
- Keep content as up to date as possible in line with new product releases and testing updates.
- Work closely with the video team to produce ‘How we test’ reels and videos for TikTok Shop.
- Be an ambassador of Hearst UK and its values.
- You may be required to undertake such further duties as your skills, qualifications and experience allow and/or as may be assigned to you from time to time.
ABOUT YOU
- Excellent in-depth knowledge on the latest homes product launches and trends.
- Experience working with PRs to get the inside scoop on new product launches.
- Strong writing ability with lots of personality.
- Demonstrable experience writing homes and/or product review content online and in print desirable.
- Good knowledge of the core principles of SEO and best practice.
- Good knowledge of affiliate linking.
- Experience using content management systems.
- Ability to transform product test results into engaging, jargon-free copy at speed.
- Accurate and organised.
- Confidence communicating with multiple stakeholders.
- Good attention to detail.
- Experience using Photoshop is desirable.
- Experience shooting social video desirable.
