Summary
As an Operations Duty Manager at Hearn’s, you will sit within the Operations Control Team and be responsible for the daily oversight of the company’s coach hire operational activity. Your primary focus will be ensuring that every job is covered each day, using all available resources across the business to achieve this. You will also be responsible for finalising the next day’s operational plan, ensuring schedules are confirmed and ready for release to the wider team. Based at the company’s head office, you will have full operational control over coach drivers, vehicles, and depots, making real-time decisions to maintain service delivery to the highest standard. This role is critical to the daily and forward operational success of the business.
Example Responsibilities
- Lead the daily operational running of all jobs and services.
- Ensure every scheduled job is covered and dispatched correctly.
- Rapidly resolve operational challenges and disruptions.
- Finalise and release the next day’s operational plan.
- Monitor and manage live driver and vehicle compliance.
- Act as main point of contact for urgent operational queries.
- Manage incidents and escalate where required.
- Maintain accurate operational records during shifts.
- Support a smooth handover between OCC and Depot teams.
Essential Qualifications / Experience
- Proven experience in a transport operations, logistics, or control centre environment.
- Strong decision-making skills under pressure.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving ability.
- Good understanding of driver and vehicle compliance requirements (EU Drivers' Hours, Working Time Directive).
- Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Flexible approach to shifts, including early, late, and weekend working patterns.
Desirable Qualifications / Experience
- Prior experience in the coach or passenger transport industry.
- Formal qualification in Transport Management, CPC, or similar (or willingness to work towards it).
- Category D Drivers License.
- Knowledge of transport compliance software (e.g., tachograph analysis systems).
- Experience managing operational incidents or disruptions.
- Strong interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with drivers, customers, and management.
