Overview

The Hearing Care Provider Apprenticeship Program is designed for individuals who desire to become a hearing healthcare professional providing complete hearing healthcare through patient assessment, education, and hearing loss treatment.

The Apprentice will complete the HearingLife Apprenticeship Program to gain the necessary skills and obtain required state licenses. The program includes virtual and in-person classroom learning, hands-on labs, and side-by-side training with a licensed Hearing Care Provider. The typical duration is 6 months, but may extend up to a year depending on state requirements.

Program Details

  • Training Permit: Obtain a training license for the state of study.
  • Clinical Introduction: Build foundational clinical skills through instruction, demonstrations, labs, and assessments.
  • In-Clinic Practice: Work under supervision to develop confidence and competence, progressing towards clinical certification.
  • Virtual Courses: Complete 12-week coursework covering core concepts and principles.
  • Clinical Certification: Demonstrate mastery of clinical skills to see patients independently, subject to state licensing laws.
  • Licensing Exams: Pass required state and/or national exams to transition to a full Hearing Care Provider role.
  • Additional Training: Attend classes on business principles and patient care, with certification requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Build rapport with patients and maintain schedules.
  • Conduct Tympanometry and Otoscopic examinations.
  • Perform pure tone and speech recognition tests.
  • Make amplification recommendations and handle hearing instrument fittings.
  • Provide follow-up care and counseling for patients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 0-2 years of relevant experience, preferably in patient care or healthcare settings.
  • Understanding of HIPAA regulations.
  • High school diploma or higher; some states require an Associate’s Degree.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and patient management systems.
