We are currently seeking experienced and qualified Community Support Workers for our 24/7 spinal injury complex care service user living in Oxford, Waimakariri, Canterbury. Support work is fun, people‑facing, challenging and very rewarding. It is more than a job; it is an opportunity to give invaluable support led by the people you will be supporting.

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the service user to provide support as they go about their daily tasks
  • Assisting with personal cares such as showering and bathing
  • Assisting with household management and meal preparation
  • Supporting exercise programmes
  • Assisting with accessing the community
  • Providing bowel, bladder and catheter cares
  • Moving and handling hoists and manual transfers
  • Medication support
  • Ensuring the service user’s comfort, safety and well‑being at all times

Job Location – Oxford (Waimakariri, Canterbury). The service user is located in the rural Oxford area and is approximately a 1‑hour drive from Christchurch.

Employment Type: Part‑time (up to 29 hours). We offer a range of employment opportunities including casual, part‑time and full‑time positions, which will be discussed further during the recruitment process.

Days of Work: As this is community‑based work, rotating rosters will be involved including AM, PM and weekend work. Your preferred hours of work can be discussed during the recruitment process. We are looking for reliable and dedicated support workers who would be comfortable covering morning shifts from 7 am to 3 pm and night shifts, which would include sleep‑over shifts and weekend work.

Candidate Requirements

  • Understanding of spinal injury care protocols and procedures is advantageous.
  • Ideally prior personal care experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience in complex cares (e.g., bowel and catheter cares) is preferred; comprehensive training will be provided.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and independently when required.
  • A Level 3 or Level 4 Health and Wellbeing qualification is beneficial; comprehensive training can be provided.
  • Access to a car and ability to drive independently (a full New Zealand driver’s licence is a must).
  • Flexibility to work on a rotating roster.
  • Legal right to work in New Zealand is a must.
