Are you a trained chef looking to step into a career that rewards your skills and offers a flexible working environment? An opportunity exists for qualified Chefs to join our well-established and highly reputable Catering Department at Newcastle Private Hospital on a casual basis. Your work as a chef will contribute to our patients' experience with us; providing exceptional meals during their stay. We offer a supportive atmosphere, work-life balance and no late nights!

The successful applicants will be available for a variety of shifts across a 7-day week and have prior experience in healthcare, aged care food services, or in a high-volume hotel environment.

As a Chef, your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide exceptional customer/patient service by preparing nutritious food in a timely manner, ensuring the cleanliness of kitchens and food preparation, disposing of unused food appropriately, and ordering food supplies.
  • Demonstrate cost-effectiveness by using produce effectively and managing waste.
  • Act as a valued member of an interdisciplinary team by promoting a positive team culture, supervising and providing guidance to kitchen staff, and liaising with dieticians and other staff to create an experience that makes a difference.
  • Demonstrate professional practice by working according to Healthscope's policies and processes, code of conduct and by participating in yearly performance appraisals and mandatory education. Maintain skills and standards of customer service and ensure patient confidentiality and privacy are maintained at all times.
  • Support Healthscope's safety and quality improvement and achievement of accreditation by actively participating in team meetings, quality and audit activities, and ensuring compliance with and participation in the National Safety & Quality Healthcare Standards.

Requirements:

  • Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery
  • Good working knowledge and understanding of HACCP regulations
  • Available for shifts over a 7-day roster including weekend work
  • Previous experience as a chef in a busy restaurant, club, hospital, or hotel food service environment is preferred.
  • Strong culinary skills and a passion for delivering high-quality meals.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting while maintaining attention to detail.
  • A mindset focused on enhancing the dining experience - less 'hospital' more 'hospitality.'
