Medical Emergency Team Physician - Surrey Memorial Hospital, Fraser Health

Fraser Health and the Surrey Memorial Hospital are seeking Physicians who are interested in a high-volume acute care medicine environment. In this role, you will be part of the Medical Emergency team (MET) providing medical care to inpatients in critical conditions. We offer teaching and training opportunities for individuals who are eager to refine their critical care clinical and procedural skills, or to those simply interested in learning and practicing in this environment. We are a high volume well supported program, a well remunerated practice with stable and supportive colleagues, working closely with the Department of Critical Care.
Responsibilities:
- Act as Code Team Leader and Most Responsible Physician (MRP) in Code Blue scenarios, for admitted inpatients and other Code Blue calls outside of the SMH Emergency Department.
- Provide timely response to all inpatient medical emergencies and provide immediate assessment and treatment to critically ill or injured inpatients, including assisting other MRPs with acute inpatient stroke, and after-hours contrast reactions response.
- Perform advanced critical care procedures, including airway management, central catheter placement, drainage catheter insertions, and hemodynamic monitoring. The MET team physician is supported in person and remotely while on shift by the Intensivist on call.
- Provide clinical support for the Intensive Care Unit, under the supervision of the Intensivist on call. This role does not require MRP responsibilities in the ICU.
- Participate in teaching and training programs to educate medical staff, residents, and fellows.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement evidence-based protocols and best practices for emergency and critical care.
- Contribute to ongoing quality improvement initiatives and research projects aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and safety.

Surrey Memorial Hospital is a 650 acute bed hospital offering medical, surgical, tertiary palliative care, psychiatry, as well as 24/7 emergency services with nearly 175,000 visits annually.

Qualifications:
The successful applicant must be eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. CPSBC US certified class of registration acceptable.
