Full time - 40 hours a week.
You will be supporting adults with moderate to severe learning disabilities aged over 55 years old.
Driving Duties:
- Driving an 8-seater minibus with manual gear – Class B licence is fine.
- With a full clean driving licence, drive residents to their daily activities ensuring their safety at all times.
- Ensuring the vehicle and safety and security of passengers at all times.
- Cleaning and maintaining the cleanliness of the vehicle whilst in their charge.
- Assisting users on/off the vehicle and operating the vehicle’s passenger lift safely, according to instructions delivered in the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS) training and our approved risk assessments.
- Reporting issues of vehicle damage, hazards and risks, cleanliness concerns or relevance to the manager as soon as possible.
- Meet Health and Safety requirements of the Home and legislation, in all respects.
- Adhering to the Highway Code and being personally responsible for any traffic and parking violations whilst in charge of the vehicle.
- Carrying out other care duties.
- Any other driving duties consistent with post as requested by the manager or senior staff.
Support Worker Duties:
- Enable and support residents to access a varied range of leisure activities and services in the local community.
- Support residents’ participation in home-based activities as desired.
- Participate and support residents in cooking, shopping, cleaning, laundry, and other household tasks.
- Assist in the provision of the highest possible standards with regard to quality of life and a homely environment, including support for those who represent a challenge to the service.
- Assist and support residents to have access to and receive health care, from statutory providers, i.e., GP’s, Dentist, Chiropodist, Community Learning Disability teams, etc.
- Provide personal care for residents, as appropriate, which may involve washing, dressing, toileting, intimate personal care, administering medication.
- Help promote the positive participation of relatives, friends and volunteers in the lives of the individual resident.
- Maintain good working relationships with health care professionals and others.
- Work in the framework of a staff rota, based around the residents’ needs and the requirements of the home.
- Assist in the administration and operational needs of the services, its finances, equipment, security and health & safety.
- Ensure that the delivery of the service is underpinned by a commitment to equality of opportunity for both residents and staff.
- Meet Health and Safety requirements of the Home and legislation, in all respects.
- Undertake any other duties consistent with the objectives of the post, as required by the Home Manager.
Essential Criteria:
- Female and males are welcome.
- Have held UK manual car licence (preferably no points) for a minimum 3 year period and have significant driving experience.
- Willingness and demonstrate ability to comply with Allswell Care Services Equal Opportunities Policy.
- D1 licence desirable but not essential.
- An awareness and understanding of the needs of older and disabled people.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone or in writing.
- A courteous, polite and professional manner.
- Ability to work alone.
- Must pass an enhanced DBS check.
- Computer literate.
