What began as one Nursery in 1991, has since grown into four Nurseries that now form The Woodland House Group. Today, the group is made up of a family of four nurseries based in Redditch and Bromsgrove. Each nursery is led day-to-day by a team of inspiring, passionate and highly skilled people who share the founder's original vision. Our family of nurseries are also supported by an experienced, approachable and highly moral Head Office team, focused on supporting managers with the day-to-day operation of each setting, as well as performance management, HR, Finance and Admin support. What we're looking for

  • Level 3 or above qualification in Early Years (or suitable equivalent)
  • Relevant experience, or ability to evidence that you are ready for a Room Leader role
  • Strong understanding of Ofsted frameworks, safeguarding, and EYFS standards
  • Proven ability to lead others, motivate, and develop staff in your room
  • Excellent communication
  • Excellent references detailing your suitability for the role

Scope of Position

To work as a member of the Nursery team to provide a happy, safe, relaxed and stimulating atmosphere in which children receive a high standard of care and education, thereby enabling them to reach their full potential. To lead the implementation of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum within a specific room in the Nursery, supervising staff to ensure all children are kept safe and receive rich and stimulating play experiences which support all aspects and components of the EYFS curriculum. To support the Management Team in a cycle of continuous reflection and improvement in order to ensure that the Nursery is constantly progressing and sustaining an Ofsted outstanding level of practice, care and education. In particular, you will be responsible for ensuring that your own room is continuously evolving.

Key Responsibilities

  • To supervise all Nursery Nurses, Assistant Nursery Nurses, and Apprentices, to monitor, encourage and develop practices within the room, to ensure the staff team meet the requirements of their job descriptions, fulfilling the company expectations of them and following all policies and procedures.
  • Provide high standards of quality care and education within the Nursery including the environment, resources and experiences offered to children and support team members to do the same.
  • Observe, support and extend children's learning and empower room staff to do the same.
  • Plan appropriately for children using the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum for guidance, offering guidance and support for room staff to extend their planning, mentoring and monitoring regularly and consistently.
  • Maintain accurate and effective children's records, also monitoring room staff records for all children.
  • Maintain and monitor room records e.g. cleaning rotas, Tapestry observations, blanket medication forms and emergency procedures etc. Ensuring the room action plan is up to date and implemented appropriately.
  • Working in partnership with parents/carers and other family members and encourage the staff team to form positive relationships with the families.
  • Demonstrate good practice with regard to special needs and inclusion, utilising senior staff team's knowledge and the Nursery specialist areas of practice staff for support.
  • Ensure that children are kept safe at all times and that you understand, and when necessary know how to follow, Safeguarding / Child Protection Procedures.
  • Ensure that the nutritional needs and dietary requirements of the children are met, and that Food Safety Regulations are complied with.
  • Work with staff in all specialist areas of practice who may involve: area SENDCOS, EYFS advisors, health professionals and Local Authority professionals as appropriate.
  • Comply with the statutory framework for the EYFS and relevant statutory regulations including the Children Act and Every Child Matters.
  • Develop and maintain highly professional working relationships with mentor teachers, schools, and other agencies that may visit the setting.
  • Learn about current developments in childcare and education policy and practice. Attend training courses and implement changes in practice within the Nursery, support other team members do the same, whilst promoting a positive attitude to training.
  • Plan and attend Nursery outings / additional learning experiences.
  • As a key person you will be expected to carry out all related responsibilities in building relationships with a small group of children and their families, ensuring the team follow the Key Person policy within the room.
  • Oversee the Key Person Policy by ensuring that new families, and families that have transitioned into their new room are allocated key contacts, then key person, in the time stated in the procedure.
  • Carry out and support team members when settling in new children and parents starting the Nursery, completing an informative and personal first settle.
  • Plan and follow a daily room routine, empowering room staff to do the same, particularly in your absence.
  • Assist with the resolution of issues/queries/complaints within the room to a satisfactory conclusion.
  • Challenge any practices that do not follow Woodland House Group Policy and Procedures. Reflect on working practice within the room to improve quality of care and education.
