We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Payroll Team Leader to oversee the accurate and timely processing and payment of Barchester Healthcare employees. In this role, you will lead and support a team of payroll officers, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and internal accounting standards. You will act as the key point of contact for payroll-related queries, providing guidance to both your team and wider stakeholders, and drive team performance, continuous improvement, while maintaining high standards across all payroll activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete payroll processes accurately and on schedule, including daily, weekly, and ad-hoc payroll runs
- Manage data uploads, tax codes, student loans, and employee payroll records
- Process BACS payments, including handling stops and rejects
- Reconcile payroll control accounts, loans, and court order payments
- Monitor and validate payroll data for new starters and employee transfers
- Assist Home Administrators with payroll systems and queries
- Administer employee benefits including expenses systems and company cars
- Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, policies, and government regulations
- Support year-end payroll processing alongside the Payroll Manager
- Lead and support a high-performing team while ensuring cover and continuous improvement
About You
We are looking for an experienced Payroll professional with a proven track record. You'll be confident with strong leadership skills and an ability to deliver accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Experience
- Level 4/5 CIPP Foundation Degree in Payroll Management (or equivalent)
- Proven experience in payroll processing, ideally with some leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of statutory payroll requirements and compliance
- Excellent numeracy skills and high attention to detail
- Experience producing payroll reports
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
