Have you ever thought, “I’d love a job where I actually help people”? As a Community Support Assistant, you’ll support people to attend various groups and in their own homes, helping them stay independent, comfortable, and cared for. Sometimes that means practical support, sometimes it’s simply being a friendly face and a listening ear — and often, it’s both. Don’t worry if you’ve never worked in care before. We’ll be with you every step of the way, with full training, paid shadowing, and on-going support.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting people to go for their shopping or days out
  • Supporting with medication
  • Providing companionship and emotional support
  • Food and Nutrition
  • Preparing meals and helping at mealtimes
  • Light household tasks
  • Helping people move safely and comfortably
  • Personal care (washing, dressing)
  • Simple record-keeping and reporting

Current Working Hours

Current working hours are listed below, but due to the high demand for services provided by Ability, we may be able to suit your availability if the rotas below don’t match your availability.

  • Week 1: 17 hours – Friday, Saturday & Sunday (9:00am–8:30pm)
  • Week 2: 16 hours – Tuesday & Wednesday (12:30pm–8:30pm)

  • “Will I be working on my own?” Not at first. You’ll be supported through shadow shifts and you’ll always have a team you can contact for advice or reassurance. You’re never on your own — even when working independently.
  • “What if I make a mistake?” Everyone learns by doing. We focus on support, learning, and teamwork — not blame. There’s always someone to talk to if you’re unsure or need help. Our training framework and open communication means you will always have someone to ask.
  • “Is care work really rewarding?” Yes — in ways that often surprise people. From a smile, a thank you, or knowing you’ve helped someone stay independent in their own home, the rewards are real and meaningful.
