An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and reliable Care Home Cook to join a warm, welcoming, and supportive residential care home in Eastbourne.

This beautifully presented home provides high-quality, person-centred care for older people living with dementia, offering both long-term and respite care within a comfortable and homely environment.

With accommodation for up to 20 residents, the home offers a personalised approach to care within a charming converted property. Residents can enjoy comfortable communal spaces, a peaceful garden, and the opportunity to personalise their bedrooms with their own furniture and belongings.

The home is conveniently located close to local amenities and transport links, while retaining a strong community feel.

The Role

As a Care Home Cook, you will play an important role in ensuring residents receive delicious, nutritious, and well-balanced meals that meet their individual dietary requirements, preferences, and needs.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and cooking fresh, nutritious meals for residents
  • Planning and preparing menus in line with residents' dietary requirements and preferences
  • Catering for special diets, including modified textures, allergies, and food intolerances
  • Preparing meals that are both nutritious and appealing to residents
  • Taking residents' individual likes, dislikes, and cultural preferences into consideration
  • Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and kitchen safety
  • Ensuring food is stored, prepared, and served in accordance with food safety regulations
  • Managing kitchen stock and assisting with ordering ingredients and supplies
  • Minimising food waste and maintaining good stock rotation
  • Keeping accurate records relating to food temperatures, cleaning, and kitchen procedures
  • Working closely with the care team to understand residents' nutritional needs
  • Supporting a warm, homely dining experience for residents
  • Maintaining a clean, organised, and welcoming kitchen environment

About You

The successful candidate will be a passionate, organised, and reliable cook who takes pride in preparing high-quality food and understands the importance of good nutrition within a care environment.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working as a Cook, Chef ideally within a care home or similar setting
  • Experience preparing meals for older people – desirable
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and food safety standards
  • Experience catering for special dietary requirements
  • A genuine passion for cooking and providing nutritious, enjoyable meals
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills
  • A reliable, hardworking, and team-focused attitude
  • Good communication skills and a caring, respectful approach
  • The ability to work independently and manage a busy kitchen
