Location: Dassett Road & Community

Salary: £12.21 per hour (12.5% weekend premium)

Hours: 38 hours per week (Full Time)

Job Purpose

Community Support Services provide care for supported living clients who live at Dassett Road, plus some clients who live in the community. The aim is to support with care needs and develop individuals on how they want to improve their lives.

Care Support Workers are required to:

  • Treat service users with dignity and respect.
  • Provide a safe and stimulating care environment.
  • Ensure all care provided is person centred and not within a ‘one size fits all’ approach.
  • Engage meaningfully with all clients with extra care and attention for those with significant mental health conditions or issues.
  • Complete all assigned training courses in a timely manner.
  • Read service user care plans, incorporating guidance into their methods of care and communication.
  • Assist service users with personal care needs.
  • Dispense medication in an accurate, safe, and timely manner.
  • Help service users keep their living environment clean and tidy.
  • Collect and drop off clients in their own vehicle.
  • Use a company vehicle when required to do so.
  • Help clients to consume food and drink, including assistance in the preparation of meals.
  • Fill in health and safety documents as and when required to do so.
  • Complete daily recordings relating to client welfare.
  • Attend team meetings to discuss recent developments.
  • Check ‘Slack’ and work emails on a regular basis to stay informed.
  • Use DSCR OneTouch and other digital systems to record care activities, access service user information, and communicate with the wider team.
  • Follow current public health guidance regarding infection control and testing.
  • Carry out other reasonable management requests to protect the health of service users throughout the trust.
  • Comply with other ad hoc requests from their line manager.

Personal Attributes

The following personal attributes are required:

  • Experience of providing care, including informal care settings at home.
  • Calm when dealing with service users and keen to provide a stimulating care environment.
  • Enthusiastic and passionate about caring for vulnerable adults with learning disabilities, mental health problems, and memory problems.
  • Willing to attend practical and online training courses.
  • Comfortable using digital tools and systems, with a basic level of digital literacy to support accurate record keeping and effective communication.
  • Flexible, working overtime when required.
  • Willing to work with volunteers.
  • Display genuine compassion and respect for vulnerable service users.
  • Recognises the seriousness of public health emergencies and understands that future emergencies may require precautions, including vaccination mandates as directed by health authorities.

Education & Qualifications

Preferably ‘C’ grades in Maths and English at GCSE level or equivalent. A health & social care qualification would be desirable, but demonstratable care experience will be acceptable at an interview.

DBS Checks

Appointment and continued employment are dependent upon a DBS check being carried out before start of employment, and every three years thereafter. This is a legal requirement as the charity works with adults with learning disabilities. Refusing consent to carry out this check may result in withdrawal of offer or termination of employment, subject to review. Positive disclosures are not an automatic bar to employment. Unspent criminal convictions incurred before and during employment must also be declared to the senior management team. They will review on an individual basis.

Driving Licence & Vehicle

This role includes an occupational requirement to drive service users. When service users need to access the community, attend appointments, attend our sites, or return to their home, staff must be available to transport them safely using their own vehicle or a company vehicle. The ability to drive is essential to ensure fair workload distribution and continuity of care. Where driving is not possible due to disability or other protected characteristics, reasonable adjustments will be considered in line with our obligations under the Equality Act 2010. However, applicants should be aware that the ability to drive service users is a core function of this role. You will need the following:

  • Preferably a clean driving licence.
  • Your own vehicle to support transport of service users when required.
  • Business insurance to drive with service users in your own vehicle, and if you wish to claim expenses such as mileage.

Public Health and Immunisation Requirements

Vaccinations recommended by public health authorities are encouraged to help protect the wellbeing of staff and those we support. Where immunisation is required for specific roles or settings, we will consider individual circumstances, including valid medical exemptions supported by appropriate documentation, in line with our obligations under the Equality Act 2010.

Requirements:

  • A DBS check that does not highlight issues preventing you from working with vulnerable adults (we'll cover the costs).
  • A full driving licence.
  • Access to your own vehicle.
  • Business insurance that allows you to transport clients.
  • Right to Work in the UK (we are unable to offer sponsorship).
  • Compassion for adults with learning disabilities, dementia, and mental health problems.
  • Willingness to work overtime during busy periods.

Pay & Benefits

  • £12.21 per hour (weekdays).

  • £0.45 per mile travel reimbursement + paid travel time.
