We are seeking a highly experienced Nursery Manager, with a minimum of 5 years consistent management experience, with a strong track record of leading practice within a team and maintaining high standards of early years education and care. This is a hands-on leadership role and we are specifically looking for candidates who are confident working alongside their team within the nursery environment rather than operating primarily from an office. Combe Down is a 90 place nursery and is full most of the year. It currently has a team of 37 staff members, so experience of managing large teams is essential.
Salary and Working Pattern
Salary starting from £40,000, depending on qualifications and experience, but is negotiable for the right applicant. Hours: 36 hours per week across 4 days. Working hours fall between 7.30 am – 6.30 pm on a shift pattern, working opposite the Deputy Manager.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are passionate about developing staff, building strong relationships with families, and maintaining an open, transparent safeguarding culture.
Key Priorities for the Role
- Leading and developing a strong, reflective staff team through coaching and professional development
- Driving high-quality, child-centred care and education across the setting
- Supporting marketing and enrolment activity to ensure sustainable business growth
- Developing strong, positive partnerships with parents and families
- Embedding a transparent safeguarding culture that is visible in everyday practice
Operational Context
The Nursery Manager will have responsibility for the overall quality of practice within the setting and ensuring compliance with the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework. While the role requires knowledge of operational aspects such as safeguarding, health and safety, and regulatory compliance, the nursery has a Finance Director responsible for financial management and a senior management team, including a regional SENDCo, that supports wider operational functions.
Candidate Profile
- Significant experience managing and leading within an early years setting
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to develop and inspire teams
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and regulatory compliance
- Commitment to high-quality, child-centred early years practice
- Experience engaging parents and supporting occupancy/enrolment growth
This is a hands-on leadership role. We are seeking a manager who enjoys working alongside their team within the nursery environment and supporting practitioners to deliver outstanding care and education.
