Reports To: Registered Manager

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB ROLE

To assist the Registered Manager in the effective management of the children's residential home, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to young people in accordance with the home's Statement of Purpose. Act as the delegated manager in the absence of the Registered Manager and provide direct support to staff and young people as required.

Alternate weekend availability essentially

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Registered Manager in ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, safeguarding young people, and maintaining high standards of care throughout the residential home.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the home, ensuring young people's welfare, safety, and development in accordance with care plans and placement plans, while promoting a nurturing and inclusive environment.
  • Lead, supervise, and develop the staff team by conducting regular supervisions, appraisals, and training to uphold high standards of professional care and teamwork.
  • Oversee the implementation, monitoring, and regular review of individual care plans, ensuring that each young person's needs and well-being are consistently met and addressed.
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships with families, professionals, and external agencies to achieve positive outcomes for young people, fostering holistic support and respecting their cultural, health, and educational needs.

KEY TASKS

  • Conduct regular audits of policies, procedures, and records to ensure compliance with organisational and regulatory standards.
  • Assist the Registered Manager in preparing for internal and external inspections to meet Ofsted requirements.
  • Manage shift coordination, ensuring staff are allocated responsibilities effectively and the needs of young people are prioritised.
  • Conduct daily briefings to share updates and priorities with staff to ensure smooth and consistent operations.
  • Support and monitor staff in the delivery of care that aligns with placement plans and individualised goals.
  • Perform regular health and safety checks of the premises to maintain a safe and secure environment for young people and staff.
  • Ensure young people are engaged in enriching activities that promote their physical, emotional, and social development.

In Support of Key Responsibility 3

  • Provide regular one-to-one supervisions and appraisals for staff, offering guidance, constructive feedback, and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Organise and facilitate staff training opportunities to enhance team skills and knowledge in areas such as safeguarding, trauma‐informed care, and behaviour management.
  • Conduct team meetings to ensure open communication, share information, and align staff efforts with organisational objectives.
  • Mentor and support newly inducted team members by providing them with a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities.
  • Monitor and address staff performance issues in a timely manner, escalating concerns to the Registered Manager if necessary.

In Support of Key Responsibility 4

  • Supervise staff in the development and regular review of Placement Plans to ensure they reflect the changing needs of each young person.
  • Ensure that care plans include measurable objectives and tailored strategies for achieving personal development and life goals.
  • Conduct regular reviews and progress tracking to ensure care plans remain relevant and effective.
  • Facilitate key workers in maintaining comprehensive and accurate records, including daily observations, progress notes, and risk assessments.
  • Act as an advocate for young people's needs and best interests during discussions with other professionals.
  • Share regular updates with families and key professionals, ensuring confidentiality is maintained.
  • Foster a culture of inclusivity and respect, ensuring that diverse cultural, religious, and medical needs are actively supported within the home.
  • Act as the delegated manager during the absence of the Registered Manager, ensuring continuity in leadership and decision‐making.

GENERAL

  • Conduct and participate in team meetings, staff supervision, and training as required.
  • Undertake on‐call duties in line with management rota, providing support and guidance to staff.
  • Compile staff rotas to meet occupancy levels and operational demands.
  • Ensure all staff under supervision complete induction and personal development training.
  • Be aware of and adhere to Health and Safety regulations, especially regarding building upkeep.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of young people, ensuring all relevant policies and procedures are followed.
  • Promote and adhere to the Company's Equality, Inclusion, and Diversity Policy.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the Registered Manager.
  • Collaborate with professionals such as social workers, therapists, and educational staff to gather input and update care plans accordingly.

  • Engage with parents, guardians, and external agencies, ensuring strong communication and collaboration in support of young people.
  • Attend professional network meetings, reviews, and planning sessions to align care strategies and ensure consistency in service delivery.
