What you will do
- Perform routine and specialist Histopathology procedures, such as embedding, microtomy, tissue processing, and slide preparation to ensure accurate diagnostic results.
- Carry out Immunohistochemistry testing using advanced automated platforms including Leica Bond III, Ventana BenchMark Ultra, and Dako instrumentation, enhancing diagnostic capabilities.
- Support Molecular Pathology workflows through diligent specimen preparation, quality assessments, and associated laboratory procedures.
- Engage in quality assurance activities like Internal Quality Control (IQC), External Quality Assessment (EQA), and audit programmes to maintain high laboratory standards.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Must have a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science or equivalent recognised qualification.
- HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist is essential.
- Possessing an IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Histopathology is required for Band 6 (desirable for Band 7).
- A relevant postgraduate qualification, IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma, or equivalent experience is desirable for Band 7.
Experience
- Significant experience within an accredited Histopathology laboratory is necessary.
- Demonstrable hands‑on experience in Immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology services is expected.
- Experience in participating in IQC/EQA programmes and maintaining quality standards is required.
- Band 7 applicants should demonstrate experience in staff supervision, training, service improvement, and laboratory leadership responsibilities.
