Health and Wellbeing Practitioner / Healthcare Assistant

SALARY: £25,000 – £28,000 per annum (depending on experience) + Benefits

JOB OVERVIEW
This is a rewarding opportunity to help people understand and improve their health through accessible preventative screening across Oxfordshire. The Health and Wellbeing Practitioner / Healthcare Assistant will work in workplaces, community settings and a mobile health unit, supported by role-specific training and assessment.
Working within approved protocols, the Health and Wellbeing Practitioner / Healthcare Assistant will deliver routine screening, brief interventions and signposting.
With remote medical consultation available for exceptional escalation, the Health and Wellbeing Practitioner / Healthcare Assistant will practise within assessed competence and approved service scope.

DUTIES
Your duties as the Health and Wellbeing Practitioner / Healthcare Assistant include:
- Health MOT Delivery: Carry out appointments across Oxfordshire, explain the service and privacy arrangements, and obtain appropriate consent
- Clinical Measurements: Accurately take and record blood pressure, height, weight, BMI, waist circumference and waist-to-height ratio measurements
- Health and Wellbeing Assessments: Guide participants through approved assessments covering smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity and mental wellbeing
- Results and Interventions: Explain results clearly and deliver brief health and lifestyle interventions using approved approaches, including Making Every Contact Count
- Signposting and Support: Help participants access appropriate services, including pharmacies, GPs, smoking cessation, weight management, physical activity, alcohol and mental health support
- Escalation and Safeguarding: Recognise findings requiring escalation and follow approved clinical, emergency, safeguarding and mental health pathways
- Records and Safety: Maintain accurate confidential digital records and high standards of hygiene, infection prevention and equipment safety, reporting incidents and concerns in line with procedures
- Independent Practice and Mobile Working: Work within assessed competence and approved protocols, drive the mobile unit where required, and take part in training, supervision and competency reviews
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
- Level 3 qualification in healthcare, health and social care, beauty therapy, aesthetic therapy, complementary therapy, health and wellbeing, fitness, physical activity or another relevant discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
- Experience working with clients, patients or the public and confidence discussing health and wellbeing sensitively and without judgement
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail, accurate record keeping and confidence using digital systems
- Ability to work independently within protocols, with an understanding of confidentiality, professional boundaries and safeguarding
- Full, valid UK driving licence with entitlement to drive a van, plus the ability to drive the mobile unit and travel throughout Oxfordshire
DESIRABLE
- HCA or Healthcare Support Worker experience
- Community, occupational or public-health experience
- Experience taking blood pressure or other clinical observations
- Clinical measurement or behaviour-change intervention experience
- Knowledge of local services
