Responsibilities:

  • Provide high standards of direct patient care to a variety of surgical patients within the ward/day unit environment.
  • Enhance patient care while developing specific clinical competencies and improving own knowledge through lifelong learning.
  • Work under the guidance of the ward manager and multidisciplinary team to monitor and maintain excellent standards of nursing care as part of the ward team.
  • Carry out all relevant forms of care with the guidance and support of more senior staff and be flexible to provide cover in any area specified.
  • Be accountable for nursing practice, adhere to HMT and NMC policies and protocols, and assist in the continuing professional development of learners such as student nurses and junior staff.
