We have an exciting opportunity for a Medical Secretary to join our team at St Hugh’s Hospital, Grimsby. This is a bank role, meaning you are not contracted to fixed hours; you can pick shifts that align with your availability, allowing flexible scheduling. Main duties of the job:

  • Provide administrative/secretarial support to all Consultants undertaking insured and NHS primary care trust referrals.
  • Provide a typing service for Consultants who have contracted the hospital to provide private and NHS secretarial facilities and maintain accurate records.
  • Ensure all letters are sent out in a timely manner.
  • Ensure clinic outcomes are recorded accurately.
  • Ensure urgent work is picked up on the medical dictation service and dealt with appropriately and timely.
  • Ensure patients are dealt with via MDT when highlighted by Consultant and contact appropriate teams at other hospital trusts.
  • Ensure inter‑provider transfers are dealt with in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Be proactive in ensuring all urgent results are highlighted to the relevant Consultant/Department and action taken.
  • Use IT systems and databases to record relevant and accurate information.
  • Promptly deal with telephone enquiries from patients, GPs, patients’ relatives, and other health care professionals, taking and relaying messages politely and with empathy.
  • Ensure that all information distributed to patients is accurate and up‑to‑date.

About you:

  • RSA Stage 2 word processing or equivalent.
  • Previous secretarial experience.
  • Sound educational background.
  • Medical terminology.
  • High standard of accuracy.
  • Knowledge of computer packages (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, databases).
  • Data inputting skills.
