We are seeking an experienced, motivated and highly skilled Senior Scrub Practitioner/Surgical First Assistant to join our dynamic Theatre team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a registered healthcare professional with extensive perioperative experience to provide clinical leadership while delivering outstanding patient care across a wide range of surgical specialties.
As a senior member of the Theatre team, you will play a key role in the day‑to‑day management of theatre services, supporting the Theatre Manager and Deputy Theatre Manager in maintaining high standards of clinical practice, patient safety and operational efficiency.
You will be expected to lead by example, support the development of colleagues, drive quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with national standards and local policies.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the theatre on‑call rota.
- Provide visible clinical leadership within the operating theatre.
- Manage the day‑to‑day running of theatre sessions, ensuring safe and effective patient care.
- Scrub across a wide range of specialties, including complex surgical procedures.
- Work as a qualified Surgical First Assistant under the direction of the operating surgeon.
- Support theatre efficiency through effective staffing, stock management and equipment coordination.
- Lead, mentor and develop junior staff, students and new team members.
- Participate in audit, quality improvement and service development projects.
- Promote evidence‑based practice and implement national guidance including NICE and Af PP recommendations.
- Maintain accurate patient documentation and ensure compliance with theatre safety standards.
