The Deputy Manager (DM) role is accountable for working in partnership with the Registered Care Home Manager in leading the team in Antrim Care Home to deliver all aspects of the strategic and operational objectives of both Antrim Care Home and the Hutchinson Care Home Group. The DM will work as part of the nursing team on agreed shifts weekly ensuring to champion excellence in nursing practice and will also work off the floor completing management duties within their working week. When the Care Home Manager is absent, the DM will be expected to lead and manage Antrim Care Home accordingly.

Key priorities of this role will be to support the Care Home Manager leading the quality and consistency of the clinical care delivered to residents, the operational and administrative running of the Home, liaising with stakeholders of the Home and partnering with the families of the residents to ensure an exceptional care experience for every individual within the Home, leading, motivating and developing the staff team.

Main Duties:

  • Support the Care Home Manager to lead and deliver exceptional person-centred care for all residents in accordance with HCH values and RQIA, NMC and Trust standards.
  • Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological and spiritual support to residents and family.
  • Engage and represent HCH on external partnerships acting as a champion for the Company.
  • Sustain and develop relationships within the sector to continuously develop opportunities within the Home.
  • Promote independence for all residents.
  • Work closely with the Quality & Safeguarding Team to ensure compliance and a proactive approach to ensure safe and effective governance of the Home.
  • Identify and carry out pre-assessments for the Home.
  • Management of the work rota.
  • Ensure compliance with RQIA standards.
  • Ensure to maintain Homes occupancy levels.
  • Ensure to maintain, update all clinical records for residents.
  • Ensure to reflect the ongoing needs of residents, relatives and other carers in care plans.
  • Ensure to maintain and schedule adequate nursing and general staffing level in the Home at all times.
  • Work closely with the multidisciplinary teams.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment with the health and safety standards.
  • Protect residents and employees by developing and managing infection control policies and protocols, medication storage and controlled substances with vigilant record keeping.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all medical equipment.

Staff Management:

  • Support the Care Home Manager to lead, supervise, motivate and develop the staff team.
  • Ensure nurses PIN are in date on NMC register and Care staff on NISCC register.
  • Comply fully with HCH recruitment and selection policy in particular paying attention to access NI, right to work regulations for overseas staff and references.
  • Comply fully with all HCH policies and procedures within the organisation.
  • Ensure the staff establishment is in accordance with resident needs, staffing ratio requirements and budgets.
  • Engage with all policies and procedures with HCH to support the management of staff ensuring probationary period reviews, supervision and appraisals are completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that the team has completed their statutory training and ensuring the management of ongoing learning and development of the staff.

Finance & Administration:

  • To support the Care Home Manager to partner with SMT in the development and delivery of budgets for the Home.
  • Produce reports as required by SMT and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure excellent attention to detail with all paperwork including but not limited to safeguarding, complaints, RQIA quips, regulation 29 reports.

Staff Nurse Duties:

  • Deliver all nursing duties in accordance with HCH and NMC standards, policies and procedures.

Personal Development:

  • To promote dignity and respect, living and championing HCH values within all aspects of the Home.
  • Ensure proactive approach to NMC re-validation and continuous development.
  • Attend ongoing learning and development events.
  • Represent the Care Home as required in internal/external events/forums.
  • Maintain a professional knowledge by attending workings and working groups where applicable.
  • Keep up to date with new development in nursing care, treatments and research.
  • Work with SMT on projects and new initiatives.
  • Any other duties that are relevant to the running of Antrim Care Home or any care setting within the Hutchinson Group as required.

Required Criteria:

  • RMN/RGN with at least 3 years post qualifying experience.
  • Previous experience leading and managing a team successfully.
  • Experience or working with older/elderly or dementia patients.
  • Management experience with a full understanding of Care Standards and National minimum standards for older people.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills leading a team to achieve clear objectives.
  • Must be passionate about delivering exceptional care.
  • Must demonstrate a driven but compassionate style of leadership.
  • Must be interested in engaging in continuous personal development.
  • A full clean driving licence and access to a car.
