Do you have a passion for cooking and a desire to make a difference in the lives of others? The Home Braefield Nursing Home is based in the picturesque village of Connor, located between Antrim and Ballymena. Braefield is a 56 bedded Nursing Home spread over 3 units. The categories of care we cater to are Mental Health Nursing, Frail and Elderly Nursing, and Dementia Nursing. The team at Braefield Nursing Home are very dedicated in providing a high standard of person-centred care.

The Role

You will help provide nutritious well-balanced meals, contributing to the overall wellbeing of our residents, as well as meeting their individual dietary requirements. The Assistant Cook works closely with the Chef, supporting with menu planning, meal preparation, kitchen management and ensuring compliance with the necessary regulatory standards. 4 days/week 8am-6pm 37Hours/week

About The Role

  • Assist the Cook/ Chef in preparing and cooking meals according to dietary requirements and meal plans.
  • Help with food preparation, including chopping, mixing, and assembling ingredients.
  • Ensure that all food is prepared to high standards of quality, presentation, and hygiene.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen, including washing dishes, cleaning surfaces, and equipment.
  • Monitor food stocks, assist with ordering supplies, and ensure proper food storage and stock rotation.
  • Support in meal service and ensure residents' needs are met with kindness and care.
  • Comply with food hygiene and health and safety regulations at all times.

Required Criteria

  • Right to Work in the UK
  • Minimum 1 years experience working as an Assistant Cook or similar role in a food preparation/ kitchen setting.
  • Hold a basic Food Safety and Hygiene certificate.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of the dietary needs, nutritional and cultural requirements of elderly people.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Have basic knowledge of HACCP, COSHH and Health and Safety.

Desired Criteria

  • Experience gained in a care home or similar healthcare environment desirable.
  • NVQ Level 2 in a relevant subject is desirable.
