Salary: Up to £68,000 per annum (HCAS inclusive)

Hours: Full time - 3 days/week for Auditing function, 2 days per week clinical

Background: Healthcare Central London is the GP Federation covering the Central London borough area. The organisation supports 27 General Practices and 4 Primary Care Networks (PCNs). We operate a number of NHS contracts and have now been successfully awarded NHS contracts to deliver specialist Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) services. Our vision is to be recognised as a leading GP provider network, run by clinicians for the benefit of our local population.

Job Role: The Clinical Auditor, ADHD service will support clinical governance processes by delivering reviews to measure and improve the quality and effectiveness of the ADHD service. The Clinical Auditor will be responsible for undertaking clinical audit and compliance work to provide assurance on the appropriateness of patient management (in line with appropriate local and national guidelines, best practice and team resource) and assess patient outcomes. An in-depth understanding of ADHD and its management are crucial to successful delivery of this role and on-going continuous professional development in the field will be expected. Delivery of clinical sessions will be required.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Improve patient care through clinical audit by designing and setting up projects, collecting and analysing data, writing reports and formulating recommendations for changes to practice
  • Promote an evidence based culture to the clinical practice in the ADHD service
  • Participate in the ADHD multi-disciplinary team meetings
  • Support the Lead Consultant, ADHD service and Head of Pharmacy and Clinical Services with quality assurance and improvement
  • Support data collection for compliance assurance required by Integrated Care Boards or their appointed representatives

Responsibilities:

  • Co-ordinate and manage clinical audit projects including setting up a project timetable that is achievable and meets the project's methodology
  • Plan data collection, inputting, analysis and report writing so that reports are delivered according to the required timescales
  • Design data collection tools for each project in collaboration with the HCL Business Intelligence team
  • Liaise with the internal and external agencies to receive relevant clinical, performance and operational information
  • Review, interpret and extract information from a variety of sources including recordings of patient consultations where available, patient electronic records, and other sources as required in order to collect data
  • Set-up spreadsheets and accurately input data for each audit project
  • Conduct literature searches and obtain relevant references to ensure up to date practice is promoted
  • Set up project advisory/steering groups, incorporating members from multidisciplinary backgrounds and user representatives, as appropriate
  • Utilise SystmOne to conduct consultation and prescribing audits
  • Undertake explorative data analysis, using qualitative and quantitative statistical analysis techniques
  • Interpret findings to develop recommendations for changes to clinical practice
  • Report progress and present findings to relevant committees
  • Produce written reports using a scientific reporting format
  • Liaise with relevant committees and departments throughout HCL to facilitate the implementation of recommendations and changes in practice
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of ongoing clinical audits
  • Assist in the development of HCL's Clinical Audit Work Plan and future clinical audit activities
  • Contribute to other HCL quality improvement projects as necessary
  • Identify research opportunities in the service and work with the HCL Research and ADHD senior leadership teams to develop and implement successful research projects
  • Be responsible for the organisation, planning of own workload to meet set deadlines
  • Compliance with KPI monitoring
  • Ensure all clinical elements of commissioning KPIs are routinely collated and reported to ICB Contracting Leads as per agreed schedules and ad hoc when required
  • Work with the Operational Leads to ensure joined up reports are prepared for internal and external stakeholders as required
  • Ensure individual clinicians receive feedback on their work in order to promote a culture of continuous improvement and learning
  • Identify trends across the service and promote shared learning across all staff to raise quality across the organisation
  • Suggest quality improvement projects that can further develop the service to patients
  • Ensure appropriate re-audit to demonstrate embedding of lessons learnt and improvement
  • Support other staff undertaking clinical audit (both internally and externally) by providing individual tuition and contributing to clinical audit training sessions
  • Support dissemination of service performance and learning by preparing communications in appropriate formats
  • Engage with patients to collate their feedback, suggestions etc. with a view to co-building a high quality service
  • Support investigations of incidents in line with the NHS LFPSE
  • Consider and develop opportunities to publish and demonstrate the service excellence via journal articles, conferences etc.
  • Handle information which may be sensitive, complex or confidential and appropriately record, transfer and/or coordinate such information in accordance with the Data Protection Act; Caldicott Guidelines and the Confidentiality Code of Conduct
  • Promote and input into policy updates, risk assessments, audit tools, patient frequently asked questions, training programs etc. based on learning from audits, MDT trends, changes to guidance etc.
  • Undertake learning and development to ensure the required knowledge and skills for audit work, including carrying out clinical sessions
  • Carry out other duties which are appropriate to the skills and competencies of the post holder and grade of the post as the priorities of the service change

  • Ensure that any infection prevention and control issues are reported to the line manager/Infection Prevention and Control
  • Maintain confidentiality in relation to personal data held for colleagues and patients
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient-identifiable personal data using a non-identifiable alternative, where practicable, and limiting access on a strictly need-to-know basis in accordance with the responsibilities of the organisation's Caldicott Guardian
  • In addition to the organisation's responsibilities under the Health and Safety legislation, you are reminded of your responsibilities for health and safety at work under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (as amended) and associated legislation. These include the duty to take reasonable care of the health and safety of yourself and others in your work activities and to cooperate with your employer in the discharge of its statutory duties

Requirements:

Essential Qualifications, Accreditations, Education:

  • Registered Healthcare professional (Nurse/Pharmacist/Doctor)
  • Clinical practice and experience spanning a minimum of five years
  • Independent Prescribing Qualification
  • ADHD training and competency assessment completed

Essential Experience:

  • ADHD Practitioner with at least 12 months experience in this field
  • Demonstrable experience of undertaking projects using methods relevant to research or audit

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Able to use data sampling and data collection methods
  • Able to write literature reviews and draw out relevant findings from literature
  • Able to interpret the outcomes of statistical analyses and make clear, informed decisions based on the information at hand by making comparisons and referring to appropriate sources
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to plan and execute a number of overlapping projects
  • Good time management and prioritisation skills with the ability to plan ahead to meet tight deadlines without compromising standards
  • Positive attitude and flexible approach to working; able to re-organise tasks as appropriate in response to changing demands
  • Able to use own initiative whilst reporting to line manager on the progress of given tasks and activities
  • Able to arrange meetings and co-ordinate attendance
  • Demonstrable working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet and Email and Systm
  • Capacity to work confidently with computerised datasets
  • Good level of keyboard skills that include the ability to enter information accurately and quickly

Essential Personal Abilities:

  • Able to work with minimum supervision whilst reporting regularly to a line manager and working to an agreed plan
  • Able to work independently whilst remaining a cohesive team member
  • Able to complete tasks with good attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
