We have a new opportunity for a senior Medical Science Liaison to join our Neuroscience team to focus on spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). The Senior MSL is responsible for scientifically engaging, collaborating and aligning with a broad range of external stakeholders to address identified patient needs and ultimately change the practice of medicine for better patient access and outcomes. All scientific exchanges must be scientifically up to date, balanced and of a non-promotional nature. The Senior MSL will also contribute to innovative partnerships and implement relevant disease area strategies. They act as a strategic scientific partner, and collaborate with other Field matrix colleagues (e.g. Commercial, Market Access, HEOR, clinical research colleagues) to ensure Novartis can support healthcare systems to strengthen and improve patient access and outcomes.
Location: This territory for this role is the north of England, Scotland and West Midlands (including Birmingham). Candidates must have the right to work permanently in the UK. Unfortunately, neither visa nor relocation support are available for this role.
Key responsibilities:
- Through scientific engagement and exchange establish, develop, maintain and personalise long term professional partnerships with a broad range of external stakeholders including, but not limited to, healthcare professionals, medical experts, investigators, researchers, pharmacists, payers, opinion leaders in key hospitals, institutions and organisations.
- Collaborating with Novartis colleagues to actively support the medical strategy by collecting and interpreting insights and competitive intelligence. Maintaining close cross-functional working.
- Be a strategic internal partner identifying and sharing external medical intelligence, data gaps, data generation opportunities (including RWE and implementation science, precision medicine), and key unmet needs and opportunities to contribute to Patient Journey mapping, launch.
- Respond to unsolicited requests for information from stakeholders by sharing appropriate data regarding marketed and pipeline compounds in a timely, compliant, and stakeholder-focused manner.
- Providing medical support to the cross-functional providing strategic insights to shape the cross functional strategy.
- Acting as a field-based reference point for non-promotional scientific and clinical expertise.
- Identifying and tracking potential partnerships and research opportunities aligned with Novartis strategy.
- Ensuring that prevailing legislation, GCP, the Ethical Committee, SOP and local WP requirements along with ABPI Code of Practice requirements are fulfilled.
Requirements:
- It is essential for candidates to have significant UK MSL experience.
- Rare diseases, Gene Therapy and/or Neuroscience experience is advantageous.
- Bachelors’ or Masters’ degree or equivalent in a relevant Scientific field (Medical, Pharmacy, Medical Science, Scientific Affairs).
- The ability to understand, process, communicate and present scientific information to a high standard.
- Demonstrative external customer focus with strong networking capabilities and integration with KOLs.
- Excellent influencing, networking, presentation and communication skills as well as a proven track record of cross-functional team working.
- Experience of managing multiple projects and adapting priorities according to business along with strategic needs.
- Understanding of clinical development and the ABPI code of practice.
- Full UK Drivers Licence.
