The Territory Manager purpose in this role is to effectively increase sales volume and revenue through medical device product sales year on year, whilst maintaining strong customer relations and increasing market share. You will be responsible for the education of Anaesthetists, Intensivists and Nursing personnel on procedures and product applications and for developing and supporting strong clinical relationships. It is critical in this role that the TM acts with integrity and ethics, taking every opportunity to promote the organisation and its values and increase its standing within the market.
Key Responsibilities & Competencies
- Ensure compliance with risk‑assessed policies and procedures relating to IT security, health and safety & HR.
- Achieve company sales, profit margins and product targets for the area.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the businesses within the territory, including product range, technical specifications, prices, features, benefits, clinical applications and sales strategies.
- Present products and services to clinicians, theatre/department managers and nursing staff.
- Educate customers (and team members) in the practical benefits, handling of product, new technologies and techniques employed in using the equipment.
- Make territory plans to achieve sales and promotional targets.
- Maintain and report daily sales activity reports, account records, expenses and other required administration.
- Maintain a Business Plan to maximise territory sales opportunities.
- Review the territory’s performance with the manager regularly and produce required monthly reports.
- Track and report competitor activity in the territory.
- Promote and, when required, support study days, exhibitions and workshops on territory and throughout the UK.
- Maintain and continue to develop product knowledge through ongoing self‑development and company‑sponsored training, ensuring all training is implemented.
- Communicate regularly with the National Sales Manager, including planning for conference calls and sales meetings.
- Assist with all marketing, research and product launches when necessary.
- Understand financial operations, purchasing and funding practices of each client group (i.e., NHS).
- Influence, develop and negotiate with financial representatives (e.g., directors, procurement and business unit managers) to close sales effectively within profit margins and targets.
- Use up‑to‑date product literature and presentations for all relevant and influential stakeholders.
- Communicate agreed sales strategies to NHS and private hospital personnel in line with objectives.
- Effectively use all relevant computer applications, communication tools and internal software systems.
- Travel overseas for international congresses, product training and supplier meetings, often on weekends.
