Description
We currently have a27-hour Support Worker position available at our Garthdee Service.
Do you genuinely care about people and want every stay to be a positive experience?
We are looking for Support Workers to join our respite team, providing short-term breaks for children and adults with learning disabilities.
Working in social care is more than a job. The people we support rely on our staff to be consistent, respectful, reliable and committed to doing things properly.
We are looking for people who genuinely want to make a difference and who take pride in providing high-quality support.
You will be expected to:
- Treat every person with dignity, respect and kindness.
- Take the time to understand the individual, rather than simply completing tasks.
- Follow support plans, risk assessments, policies and agreed ways of working.
- Take responsibility for your actions and be accountable for the support you provide.
- Complete records accurately and understand that good recording is an important part of safe care.
- Speak up when something is not right and ask for help when you need it.
- Be willing to learn, accept feedback and continually develop your practice.
- Work reliably and contribute positively to your team.
- Maintain professional standards, even when working without direct supervision.
- Put the needs, rights, choices and wellbeing of the people we support at the heart of what you do.
We don't expect you to know everything when you start. We do expect you to care, to be willing to learn, and to take responsibility for doing your job well.
If you are looking for a role where you can simply complete your shift and go home, this may not be the right role for you. If you want to build positive relationships, support people to have good lives and be part of a team that takes pride in the quality of its work, we would like to hear from you.
About our respite service
Our respite services provide short stays for children and adults with learning disabilities, giving the people we support an opportunity to enjoy new experiences, develop independence, spend time with others and take part in activities they enjoy.
Respite also provides families and carers with a valuable break, knowing that their loved one is being supported by a skilled and caring team.
Every person who comes to our service is an individual, with their own personality, communication style, interests, routines and support needs.
Because stays are often short, our Support Workers need to be able to build positive relationships quickly, listen, adapt and make each person's time with us meaningful.
About the role
As a Respite Support Worker, you will provide person-centred support throughout each person's stay.
Your role may include:
- Supporting children and adults with personal care and daily living.
- Administering medication in line with training, support plans and Archway procedures.
- Supporting eating and drinking and individual dietary requirements.
- Supporting mobility, transfers and the safe use of equipment where required.
- Supporting people to communicate their wishes, choices and needs.
- Planning and participating in activities, outings and experiences.
- Supporting people to develop and maintain independence and life skills.
- Helping people to feel comfortable, welcome and at home during their stay.
- Following individual support plans, risk assessments and agreed ways of working.
- Recognising and responding appropriately to changes in people's needs or presentation.
- Maintaining accurate records and sharing information with colleagues.
- Working closely with families, carers and colleagues to ensure continuity of support.
- Contributing to a safe, positive and stimulating environment.
Every stay matters
For some people, coming to respite may be something they look forward to. For others, being away from home can feel unfamiliar or challenging.
As a Support Worker, you can make a real difference by helping each person feel safe, understood, included and valued.
You might support someone to try an activity for the first time, help a child enjoy an outing, encourage someone to develop a new skill, or simply spend time doing something they love.
It's not about filling someone's time. It's about helping them have a good experience.
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide sponsorship to work in the UK.
