Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior BMS to work in the TDL Blood Transfusion Laboratory, Manchester, assisting the Lead BMS in the daily management of the department on a 12‑month fixed‑term basis to cover maternity leave.
Main duties of the job
You will have a strong transfusion background and be looking to develop managerial and professional responsibilities in a progressive and forward‑thinking department, working with a friendly and collaborative team within blood sciences. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing quality improvement and innovation initiatives for the transfusion laboratory. You will be an excellent communicator who enjoys working in a busy, complex environment with the ability to manage multiple priorities and achieve tight deadlines.
You will be involved in the operational responsibility for our UKAS accredited Blood Transfusion laboratories located in the TDL Manchester hub, and for Blood Transfusion Quality Management across several remote private hospital sites. You will support the ongoing Blood Tracking system across the TDL/HSL group and implement the new BT LIMS over the next 12 months. The hub laboratory is equipped with a Grifols Eflexis blood grouping analyser and a Grifols Wadiana analyser. Your work will ensure the department continues to deliver a high‑quality, timely and effective service, where patient experience and safety are central.
