About the role

A vacancy has arisen for a newly qualified HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist in our Blood Sciences Department based at the Lister Hospital Essential Services Laboratory (ESL). Health Services Laboratories now provide Pathology services to the East and North Hertfordshire Trust following implementation of a new Pathology and Phlebotomy services programme commissioned by the Herts and West Essex Integrated Care Board with services commenced from 1st March 2025. The role will involve working in a multidisciplinary Blood Sciences laboratory. Duties will include routine operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of various analysers across the Blood Sciences disciplines. These include Roche Cobas analysers for Biochemistry, Sysmex analysers for Haematology and Grifols for Blood Transfusion. The successful candidate will oversee duties of support staff in the laboratory and be responsible for validation and authorisation of patient results into the pathology computer system (WinPath and Helix). Staff will be required to assist senior staff in maintaining UKAS / MHRA standards, as well as keeping up with their own CPD. Staff development is vital to the organisation and support will be provided to become a multidisciplinary team member within the Blood Sciences laboratories. You will be required to work 37.5 hours per week flexibly and within a shift system to cover a 24 / 7 service.
