About the role

An opportunity has arisen for a full-time fixed term Medical Laboratory Assistant position to cover maternity leave in the Microbiology team at Northwick Park Hospital. The department processes in excess of 380,000 samples per annum arising from a wide range of clinical situations and specialities. You will be working in a refurbished, well-equipped laboratory, with advanced diagnostic and IT systems. The role involves:

  • Collecting, sorting and testing samples
  • Registering specimens in Laboratory IT system WinPath and Helix
  • Answering telephone enquiries
  • Use of Kiestra laboratory automation, Bactec, Phoenix, Sedimax, Dynex DS2, GeneXpert and EntericBio analysers
  • General laboratory duties such as maintaining equipment, stock, and daily housekeeping

Flexible working patterns are in operation, and you will be required to participate in a seven-day rota comprising early, core, late and night shifts.
