An opportunity has arisen for a Permanent Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our dynamic and supportive Sample Reception team in the UCLH Rapid Response Laboratory. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work and being part of a fast-paced laboratory environment.

As a key member of our Sample Reception team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely handling of patient samples. Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Receiving, identifying and carrying out pre-analytical preparation and storage of samples and request forms from a range of service users.
  • Triaging and dispatching samples to the correct laboratory destinations, maintaining accuracy at every step via the tube tracker system.
  • Coordinating the referral of samples to third-party laboratories.
  • Working closely with the RRL Helpdesk team, supporting clients and service users through telephone and email communication.

No previous laboratory experience is required — full training will be provided.

This role is part of our late-shift coverage, but as the laboratory operates 24/7, you will be expected to participate in shift patterns that support this operational period, in line with departmental requirements.
