About the role

An opportunity has arisen for a full‑time, HCPC‑registered Biomedical Scientist in the Genetics and Molecular Pathology Department, based in Central London. The role is within the Molecular Genetics team of a multidisciplinary department working alongside Molecular Biologists, Biomedical Scientists and Clinical Scientists. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of diagnostic laboratory work, from monitoring workload and performing assays for HPV, gastrointestinal pathogens and STI detection to training in genetic assays and prenatal diagnosis (NIPT). The position also includes supervision, training of junior staff, contribut ing to the Quality Management System, participation in audits, change control, incidents and CAPA. Training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor laboratory workload and prioritise tasks.
  • Perform and validate diagnostic assays for HPV, gastrointestinal pathogens and STI detection.
  • Train in a variety of genetic assays to provide diagnostic/carrier status results.
  • Supervise and train less experienced staff.
  • Contribute to the Quality Management System through audits, change control, incidents and CAPA.
  • Support the development and optimisation of laboratory services.

Qualifications and Experience

  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
  • Experience in molecular pathology or a related laboratory discipline.
  • Familiarity with HPV, gastrointestinal pathogen and STI testing.
  • Understanding of genetic assays and prenatal testing (NIPT) is desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail, proactive attitude and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
