The Role
Health Partners is looking for a Business Development Director to drive new business growth and support client retention across our mid-tier Occupational Health portfolio.
You will win new client contracts through both tendered and non-tendered opportunities, grow organic revenue, and provide commercial leadership to help us renew and retain existing clients. You will lead each opportunity from identification and qualification through to proposal, negotiation and contract award.
Working closely with our Bid, Marketing, Client Relationship, Clinical, Operational, Finance and Implementation teams. Together you will develop solutions that are compelling, commercially viable and operationally deliverable, and that support sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end sales process for tendered opportunities in the mid-market, including small corporate and public sector procurements
- Qualify opportunities against bid/no-bid criteria, strategic fit, deliverability, commercial attractiveness and probability of success
- Act as commercial and client lead throughout tenders, coordinating the Bid function and subject-matter experts to develop win strategies
- Shape clear, compliant and persuasive tender responses that address the evaluation criteria and showcase what sets our Occupational Health proposition apart
- Lead clarification meetings, presentations, solution workshops and negotiations, making sure commitments are operationally deliverable and contractually acceptable
- Secure internal approval for pricing, margin, risk, contractual positions and any non-standard requirements before committing
- Generate new non-tendered revenue through proactive prospecting, networking, referrals, campaigns, events, partnerships and the conversion of inbound leads
- Progress opportunities from first engagement through discovery, proposal, negotiation and close, with a focus on pace and disciplined follow-up
- Identify cross-sell opportunities where they are commercially appropriate, coordinating with the relevant client owner
- Support retender strategies for existing clients, bringing market insight, commercial challenge and bid leadership while respecting clear account ownership
- Coordinate the commercial contribution to retender responses, presentations and negotiations, supporting retention, sustainable growth and agreed margins
- Spot retention threats, competitive risks and decision dependencies early, and escalate them with clear mitigation actions
- Meet or exceed targets for new business, organic growth, retention, revenue and margin
Maintain accurate, disciplined use of our Salesforce CRM
Location: London (New Broad Street), with travel as required
Hours: 37.5 per week
What We Are Looking For
- A track record in business-to-business solution sales, with personal ownership of opportunities from qualification through to contract award
- Experience of tendered sales and formal procurement processes, ideally including public sector or framework-based opportunities and supporting or leading retenders, renewals or retention activity for existing contracts
- Previous experience of coordinating cross-functional contributors to build client-focused, operationally deliverable and commercially sound proposals
- A record of delivering sales to target and managing your own pipeline proactively
A credible, consultative sales style, with strong discovery, questioning, negotiation and closing skills
Excellent written communication, bid writing, presentation and stakeholder-influencing skills
Sound commercial judgement, with the discipline to qualify opportunities, manage risk and focus effort where we can win profitably. You'll have the ability to lead through influence, coordinate multiple workstreams and keep momentum against fixed procurement deadlines by being highly organised, with strong attention to detail and consistent CRM and forecasting discipline. With a collaborative, pragmatic outlook, and the confidence to constructively challenge client requirements and internal assumptions.
