Role Outline: As a Laboratory Assistant, you will support the smooth day-to-day running of the laboratory through a wide range of sample handling, administrative and operational activities. Working within a fast-paced and highly regulated environment, you will help ensure the accurate management, storage and tracking of samples while maintaining high standards of quality, organisation and customer service. You will be responsible for processing submissions, maintaining accurate laboratory records and updating the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), while supporting sample tracking, referrals and associated documentation. The role will also involve monitoring stock levels, coordinating orders, responding to customer correspondence and supporting general laboratory processes including equipment checks, temperature monitoring and housekeeping activities. Key Responsibilities:
- Manage submissions (samples and supplies) with a high level of accuracy including attention to temperature control, storage/disposals and maintenance of sample integrity.
- Accurate record keeping in relation to the above.
- Responsible for accurate use of the Laboratory Management System (LIMS).
- Manage samples and records in relation to referral samples / coordinating timely transfers.
- Managing deviating or non-conforming samples with associated record keeping.
- Sentinel and MRO logging, monitoring, tracking and uploads.
- DAMSP Certificate production and release.
- Scan, file and dispose of sensitive customer request forms in line with data protection and confidentiality requirements.
- Monitor and respond to correspondence via the laboratory shared mailbox, ensuring a timely response is received by the customer.
- Maintain stock levels to ensure uninterrupted supply of required laboratory consumables, chemicals, reagents and in house standards.
- Place orders through approved suppliers and support the evaluation of alternative suppliers where required.
- Carry out maintenance and calibration checks on general laboratory equipment to ensure its correct and effective operation including temperature monitoring and associated actions.
- Maintain high levels of cleanliness and good housekeeping at all times.
- In conjunction with the Company’s Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs Manager, ensure that all work is performed in accordance with ISO 17025, ISO 14001, ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 requirements in testing and quality control.
- Raise non-conformances, planned deviations, changes, risks and improvements as required.
- Provide support in investigating non-conforming work.
- Adhere to all company policies, Health and Safety procedures, business systems manuals and regulatory requirements relating to quality, information security and environmental management systems.
- Ensure commitment to impartiality and confidentiality, integrity and accessibility of information.
- Participate in Team Meetings, take an active interest in the functions of the laboratory, and provide feedback.
- Collaborate with the team to drive the laboratory forward through continuous improvement.
- Assist with audits as required.
- Participate in annual Appraisal and any relevant training as required.
- Provide a high level of internal and external customer care.
What we are looking for:
- No previous laboratory experience is required but would be desirable.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week including some weekend working.
Location: Waltham Abbey, Essex.
Salary: £24,784.50 per annum.
