About The Role
As an Emergency Medicine Doctor in our fellowship programme, you will work within a dynamic, high-volume Emergency Department at Christchurch Hospital, seeing over 135,000 patients per year. Approximately 25% of these patients are admitted, offering rich clinical exposure.
Your time will be split between handsâon clinical work and dedicated nonâclinical Fellowship activities tailored to your area of interest.

This is not a clinical fellowship in the UK sense â it is designed for doctors nearing the completion of Emergency Medicine training or within five years postâfellowship.
About the Team / Service / Location
Our Emergency Department team in Waipapa, Christchurch, is renowned for clinical excellence and as a finishing school for advanced trainees, fellows, and new consultants. Our supportive team culture, emphasis on teaching, and extensive fellowship opportunities make us the only ED in Aotearoa, New Zealand to offer this scale of training.
You will also spend time working in our rural ED in Ashburton (two shifts every seven weeks), giving you exposure to a different pace and scope of emergency medicine practice.

Qualifications
- Be an advanced trainee nearing completion of fellowship with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (postâwritten exam)
- Be within five years postâfellowship in Emergency Medicine
- Hold an equivalent overseas Emergency Medicine qualification eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Strong clinical and leadership skills
- Desire to contribute to service improvement and education
- Passion for emergency medicine
