Role and Facility Information
The Orthopaedic Department at East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, BC is seeking a full‑time orthopaedic surgeon to join our team. This position focuses on general community orthopaedics with coverage in hip/knee arthroplasty, upper extremity and sports surgery.
Approved candidates should have fellowship training in arthroplasty, trauma, and/or lower extremity/foot and ankle. While this is an asset, the priority is a good fit with the group.
Call schedule is equally distributed and averages 1:5. Elective operating room time averages one day per week. The hospital has a cast clinic staffed by two certified cast technicians; cast clinic time is approximately one day a week. Office space may be shared or dedicated.
Shortlisted candidates will work as a locum for a period that allows them to become familiar with the team, site, and community prior to a final decision.
Successful candidates will possess or be eligible for FRCSC certification, or equivalent, in orthopaedics, and must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
Compensation

- Estimated Remuneration: $425 Gross Billing estimate (before rural incentives)

- Rural Retention Premium: 14%
- Retirement Flat Fee: $14,076
- Relocation Funding: $9K within BC, $12K within Canada, $15K internationally
- Recruitment Incentive: $20,000 for full‑time
- Rural CME Funding: Up to $1,800 in the first 2 years; $4,800 in years 3‑4; $7,800 thereafter

The position is fee‑for‑service and eligible for rural fee premium, rural CME, and additional rural incentives. The IHA recruitment bonus is $20,000; relocation bonus of $9,000 (within province), $12,000 (out of province), or $15,000 (international).
