The Pulmonary Function Technician (PFT) is responsible for performing comprehensive pulmonary diagnostic tests such as spirometry, FVL, FVC, MVV, DLCO, airway resistance, and methacholine challenge to assess lung function and support physician diagnosis and treatment.
They maintain accurate documentation across the pulmonary, bronchoscopy, and blood gas labs, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and proper data entry. The role involves assisting with diagnostic procedures like thoracentesis, recognizing abnormal findings, and communicating urgent concerns effectively.
Key responsibilities include managing daily schedules to optimize lab productivity, confirming patient appointments, and providing clear pre-test instructions. Collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, and peers for seamless patient care and effective handoffs is essential. The technician supports quality improvement initiatives and maintains a team-focused environment.
Qualifications include performing various pulmonary tests, maintaining accurate records, and possessing BLS certification, with ACLS required within three months. A Certified or Registered Pulmonary Function Tech credential and an associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy are preferred. This position offers flexible hours with a minimum of one shift per week.
