Detailed job description and main responsibilities Accountabilities Providing direct support and expert guidance to the VDPS administrative team to ensure processes are designed and implemented effectively in line with the scheme, policies, and legislation. Delivering training to internal teams and third-party medical assessors as required. Supporting the appeals and tribunals process, including preparing materials, witness statements, and coordinating with medical experts. Managing complex cases promptly and appropriately. Providing expert VDPS advice to internal and external stakeholders. Supporting sensitive case management with understanding and discretion. Determining necessary evidence for assessments, including medical reports, and ensuring thorough and fair evaluations. Collaborating to ensure effective processes and reporting in line with NHSBSA Clinical governance framework. Ensuring assessments are of high quality, consistent, and conducted professionally. Reviewing and advising on the effectiveness of medical assessment processes and recommending improvements. Designing audits to verify process adherence and report quality. Using assurance outputs to inform service reviews and contractual sanctions. Monitoring issues, challenges, and operational changes regularly. Sharing learning from appeals and complaints to improve services. Verifying the qualification and training of medical assessors. Maintaining robust assessment procedures with regular reviews. Monitoring third-party assessment arrangements for quality and governance. Ensuring use of up-to-date scientific evidence in assessments. Implementing feedback mechanisms for assessors and reviewing their effectiveness. Identifying and implementing service improvements. Leading sessions with assessors to promote best practices. Building relationships within the health system and representing NHSBSA externally. Promoting a customer-focused and continuous improvement culture. Driving service enhancements and transformational change. Acting as a senior leader within the Assurance Services and wider team, ensuring statutory and legislative compliance. Managing budgets related to the Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme. Person Specification Qualifications Medical graduate Experience GMC Registered Medical Practitioner with extensive post-graduate experience Experience in Injury Assessment for financial awards, including causation and disablement Experience with Vaccine Damage Payments Scheme or similar assessments Senior management level clinical expertise Knowledge Understanding of regulations and legislation relevant to Vaccine Damage Payments Skills and Attributes Analytical with attention to detail Critical evaluation of evidence Ability to analyze complex clinical and policy information Resilient and capable of handling distressing scenarios Decision-making skills in complex situations Excellent communication of sensitive information The NHSBSA values diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all backgrounds.
