University Hospitals Dorset is looking for an Undergraduate Management Accountant for a placement year.
What will this placement offer me? Our placement provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience within a busy finance department, while learning and developing management accounting skills. Your time will be spent working on supporting core finance functions directly relevant to your accountancy and finance studies. The knowledge and experience you gain will help you to stand out and provide a strong foundation level to progress your finance career. In addition to learning about finance, you’ll also develop core personal skills such as planning, communication, problem‑solving, team‑working and networking.

When can I start? Placements start any time from June to September and run for 52 weeks.

Responsibilities:
- Support core finance functions.
- Monitor budgets and conduct variance analysis.
- Manipulate large data sets.
Personal Attributes:
- Ability to use initiative and demonstrate flexibility.
- Well organised with the ability to plan and prioritise own work to meet departmental deadlines.
Qualifications:
- Essential: Educated to degree level or recognised CCAB body certificate (e.g., AAT Qualified).
- Desirable: Studying for a Diploma qualification level of a CCAB accountancy body.
Experience:
- Essential: Previous management accounting experience within the NHS.
- Essential: Previous experience of monitoring budgets and variance analysis.
- Essential: Previous experience of data manipulation with large data sets.
- Desirable: Previous experience working within the NHS, preferably within an NHS Foundation Trust.
- Desirable: Experience with E‑Financials software packages.
Knowledge:
- Essential: Sound demonstrable knowledge of financial and accounting procedures.
- Desirable: Knowledge of the organisation's objectives and activities, understanding of the NHS agenda and NHS financial framework.
