The predicted salary is between 37900 - 44000 £ per year.

The Management Accountant will provide the management accounting function for the SBU (Strategic Business Unit) or area, delivering accurate financial reporting, costings and budget support across a range of services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monthly accruals and variance analysis, including narrative commentary for month-end reports.
  • Supervise accrual calculations by Assistants or Officers and ensure accurate record-keeping of prior year accruals.
  • Upload journals and maintain the system audit trail.
  • Prepare year-end accruals, ensuring evidence is available.
  • Develop and maintain budgets, including pay calculations, non-pay budgets, and imaging marginal changes to keep future spend on target.
  • Provide basic forecasting and highlight items that may affect future financial position.
  • Prepare coding for invoices in the authorization system, resolve error messages and confirm correct VAT coding.
  • Raise invoices for income and ensure timely processing, accounting for cash-flow impact and NHS rules.
  • Authorize Treasury (TRAC) entries within two working days and resolve queries with budget holders or senior finance staff.
  • Maintain ESR payroll system accuracy for the budget side; attend establishment control meetings and liaise with HR and Workforce Intelligence Team.
  • Contribute ideas and input on saving programmes and track related budget changes.
  • Arrange regular meetings with budget holders, supporting cross-coverage and attending meetings across the Trust’s sites, including longer-distance sites such as Essex and Norfolk.
  • Complete routine costings and calculations for bids.
  • Collaborate with other Management Accountants to provide cross-cover when required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Management Accounting/Finance Function experience equivalent to that expected of a Professional Postgraduate Diploma Level.
  • Part-qualified or studying towards professional qualifications, or equivalent work-based experience.
  • Evidence of continued professional development, e.g. NHS Finance Personal Portfolio.
  • Experience in public sector organisations (desirable).

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Excellent organisational, planning and prioritising skills within a management structure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for negotiating sensitive issues and conflicted priorities.
  • Analytical skills to interpret complex financial trends from multiple sources.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, general ledger, EIS, payroll applications, Windows, and Office Suite.
  • High-speed, detail-oriented work with advanced keyboard skills.
  • Knowledge and awareness of accounting practice.
  • Judgement to make appropriate assumptions in financial reporting and problem resolution.
  • Effective teamwork, flexibility, and the ability to perform complex tasks under pressure and deadlines.
  • Customer awareness and self-motivation for independent initiative.
