Support the provision of a comprehensive financial management service to clinical and/or corporate managers within one or more directorates. Work closely with budget managers to provide financial management advice and support using information produced by the management accounting team. Produce timely and accurate management information, applying accounting procedures and understanding the operational business of the Trust.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the senior management accountant in the production of monthly budget reports, ensuring the timetable is achieved, data is accurate, and all accruals, pre‑payments, and variances are correctly reflected.
  • Prepare and input journals to correct coding errors and enter monthly commitments and pre‑payments, ensuring appropriate supporting information is provided and transactions are authorised.
  • Prepare and input budget virements in accordance with the Trust virement policy and procedures.
  • Meet regularly with budget holders to discuss financial performance, understand variance reasons and, together with the senior management accountant, provide challenge, support and advice to maintain financial control.
  • Undertake costings for new developments and service enhancements within the supported area.
  • Assist with the annual budget setting process, including costing approved staffing establishment and maintaining budget working papers.
  • Raise directorate income invoices correctly and regularly, providing clear supporting information for charges.
  • Provide advice to budget holders on Trust financial and purchasing systems and interpretation of financial statements.
  • Understand and comply with key financial procedures and policies (Trust Standing Orders, Standing Financial Instructions, purchasing procedures) and provide clarification to budget holders as required.
  • Contribute to the production of Trust Annual Accounts, completing working papers, analysis and returns as directed.
  • Complete mandatory training in line with Trust policy and procedures.
  • Participate in the staff appraisal process and undertake it for any staff you manage.
  • Keep up to date with all Trust policy matters.
  • Provide management supervision where appropriate.

Person Specification

Essential qualifications: GSCE grades A‑C; AAT or equivalent level 4 qualification in finance, accountancy or business, or relevant finance experience.

Desirable qualifications: Excel skills and an interest in an accounting career; comprehensive knowledge of management accounting processes.

Employment and Compliance Certificates of Sponsorship (CoS) are prioritised for registered roles. The employee bears the cost of an initial DBS check, which will be deducted from the first salary. COVID vaccination is required in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) (Amendment) (Coronavirus) Regulations 2021.
