We love what we do and we think you will, too! At Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust (GHC) we provide joined‑up mental health, physical health and learning disability services to people of all ages across Gloucestershire.

This role is offered on a fixed term basis for 14 months. Under the direction of the Senior Operational Finance Manager and Financial Accountant, the Student Trainee will provide efficient and effective support to the Finance team.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain ledger entries and produce journal postings.
  • Analyse variances and prepare exception reports for budget holders.
  • Provide training to budget holders on finance systems.
  • Collect and deliver notes and other financial documents.
  • Respond to queries from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist finance staff with ad‑hoc analysis and advice to both financial and non‑financial users.
  • Attend meetings and support budgeting conversations.
  • Understand and apply statutory financial obligations, including Standing Financial Instructions and Standing Orders.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information in accordance with the Data Protection Act and Trust policies.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as typing, photocopying, sorting post and answering the telephone.
  • Cover for colleagues during absences and support the team as needed.
  • Participate fully in the appraisal and development review process.
  • Remain flexible and adjust priorities as circumstances change.
  • Undertake any other duties consistent with the role as directed by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Essential: GCSE Grade 5 or equivalent in English.
  • Essential: GCSE Grade 5 or equivalent in Maths.
  • Essential: Proficient keyboard skills.
  • Essential: Demonstrable accountancy study at degree level.
  • Desirable: Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes.
  • Desirable: Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Desirable: Ability to work under instruction.
  • Desirable: Basic understanding of Management Accounts work.
  • Desirable: Willingness to work collaboratively.

Applicant Requirements

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people and must undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check. The role is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020.
