Drive service and digital change by turning business needs into clear, deliverable solutions. This is a Business Analyst role focused on understanding services, working with stakeholders, and shaping change. You will gather and translate business requirements, working closely with clinical and operational teams to define needs and support delivery. You will be involved from discovery through to delivery and review, ensuring changes are well structured and aligned to service priorities. The role centres on stakeholder engagement, process mapping, and requirements definition. We are looking for someone with strong stakeholder skills and experience in requirements gathering, who can bring clarity to complex service challenges. If you are motivated by improving services and supporting delivery, this role will be a good fit.

Main duties of the job:

  • As a member of the Data Innovation and Data Management team, the Business Analyst will support the development of digital and data solutions by eliciting, analysing and refining requirements, and ensuring these are clearly documented and communicated for delivery.
  • The postholder will coordinate delivery activity, support governance processes, and act as a key link between digital/data teams and the business from initiation through to completion, contributing to key product deliverables across Digital Transformation and Data Management.

Job responsibilities:

  • Identify, select and apply different business analysis approaches and tools tailored to the context, scale, and scope of change initiatives.
  • Provide support where business analysis specialization is most relevant, including leading activities or supporting others according to scale and complexity.
  • Identify the potential scope and needs of change initiatives, develop deep understanding of problems, establish root causes, conduct current state and gap analyses, and complete user research to identify needs.
  • Support development and appraisal of solutions aligned to user needs and organisational objectives (to-be state, user journey mapping, requirements gathering, options appraisals).
  • Support others involved in implementing solutions, including acceptance criteria, acceptance testing, user testing and analysing post-implementation performance.
  • Transform analytical findings into clear, data-driven actions and strategic recommendations that guide decision-making and service improvements.
  • Interrogate and interpret qualitative and quantitative data such as service performance and patient outcomes, identify trends, inefficiencies and opportunities, and assess data quality to avoid misinterpretation.
  • Make the complex simple by distilling, theming, summarising and adapting information tailored to individual stakeholder groups, using creative methods to engage and present.
  • Model a collaborative, influential and flexible style of working, pre-empting and planning for potential challenging conversations and reactions.
  • Draw on wider fields such as Change Management, Continuous Improvement, Improvement Science, Research and Innovation.

Communication:

  • Proactively engage with team members and other stakeholders to gather data requirements and support effective working relationships, verbally and in writing.
  • Attend internal and external meetings on behalf of the team where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with senior and specialist colleagues to align approaches, including governance structures with PMO colleagues.
  • Develop effective communications for initiatives, adapting styles to meet varied audiences.
  • Report and present information in multiple formats (statistics, storytelling, case studies, etc.) to staff, service users, senior leaders and other stakeholders.
  • Design, deliver and facilitate discussions and workshops to engage others in change, building strong relationships to maximise buy-in.
  • Use communication, influencing and interpersonal skills to encourage others to think differently about change and innovation, even when there is resistance.

Budgetary responsibility:

  • Quantify and translate inefficiencies and opportunities into financial metrics as part of as-is and to-be analysis.
  • Support identification and monitoring of financial/efficiency savings where this is a deliverable.

People management:

  • Maintain professional development and participate in appraisal and KSF process.
  • Coaching and training to enable others to use basic business analysis techniques (process mapping, requirements documenting, MoSCoW prioritisation).
  • Develop into an SME for business analysis, supporting the BA function as a specialism within the Trust.
  • Participate in the Trust's appraisal process and work with line manager on a personal development plan.
  • Research strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven approach.
  • Working knowledge of change management and service or workforce redesign.
  • Proficiency in using business analysis to develop and compare solution options against objectives.
  • Ability to review, interpret, manipulate and present complex data and information.

Knowledge and skills – desirable:

  • Understanding of NHS structures, policies and strategic priorities.
  • Ability to project/estimate the impact of to-be states and analyse outcomes once implemented.
