The role involves delivering a comprehensive training programme and audit services for the Trust’s Clinical Coding Department and external stakeholders. The incumbent will design and conduct training, mentoring, and audit activities to ensure accurate clinical coding and compliance with national standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop, plan and deliver training courses, workshops and ad‑hoc sessions for clinical coders and related staff.
- Conduct induction for new staff, advise the Coding Manager on ongoing training and development needs, and act as mentor for novice coders.
- Audit the completeness, timeliness and accuracy of clinical coding across the Trust, utilising ICT and national coding conventions (ICD10, OPCS‑4).
- Prepare and present audit reports to senior leadership, recommend improvements and support continuous quality enhancement.
- Liaise with clinicians and managers, attend multidisciplinary meetings and communicate complex coding rules.
- Maintain CCS Registered Trainer status and pursue Registered Auditor status.
- Develop and update training materials, ensure adherence to national coding standards, and support the production of case study training content.
- Manage administrative aspects of training delivery, including venue booking, registration and documentation.
- Support the Trust’s coding budget and financial initiatives related to training and audit services.
- Assist in organising re‑audits following training delivery and monitor post‑audit improvements.
- Provide coaching, conduct feedback sessions and resolve coding inaccuracies in a professional manner.
- Act as a point of contact for the Clinical Coding Department and contribute to policy and procedural development.
Qualifications
- Essential: Accredited National Clinical Coding Qualification.
- Desirable: Accredited Clinical Coding Auditor and Trainer status.
Skills
- Essential: Presentation skills, ability to relate to people at all levels, report writing, ability to work confidently with minimal supervision.
- Desirable: Training delivery skills, experience of working with clinicians and senior staff, experience of developing training materials, attendance on report‑writing courses.
