Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an enthusiastic, experienced, & innovative Finance Professional to join its dynamic Financial Management team. The successful applicant will have the responsibility for providing guidance and support, accurate financial information, and developing strong financial governance controls within the Research Directorate. This opportunity will give the successful candidate a real opportunity to strengthen their existing financial and inter-personal skills as well as to expand their knowledge of NHS Finances associated with Clinical research activities within a busy acute hospital setting.

Research is embedded into the heart of the Trust's services. We operate over several sites, including our very own dedicated Bradford Institute for Health Research, which hosts one of the NIHR funded Commercial Research Delivery Centres (CRDC). We work closely with other organisations (including Pharma) to ensure Clinical Research is embedded into patient care. Our staff, patients and carers are involved in research that is nationally and internationally renowned and aims to improve the lives of people in Bradford and beyond.

Main duties of the job include:

  • Deputising for the Finance Business Partner & Finance Manager, to deliver a comprehensive business service.
  • Ensuring effective financial performance & maximising research income through commercial opportunities.
  • Managing multiple deadlines and targets, producing routine financial monitoring information, and providing financial advice and support to budget holders.
  • Providing specialist accounting and business expertise relating to clinical research across the NHS, universities, and industry.
  • Engaging closely with Clinical Research Teams to ensure accurate costing of research activity and compliance with policies.

Summary of most important Experience/Skills/Qualifications required:

  • Relevant post-qualification experience in a Finance position within an NHS organisation or Clinical Research setting.
  • Effective communication with strong influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills (e.g. Power Pivots, Power BI, or equivalent).
  • Ability to work to demanding deadlines.

Essential Experience includes:

  • Preparation and submission of research funding costings and applications.
  • Deputising at Senior Management meetings.
  • Working in a large organisation with complex management structures.

Desirable Experience includes:

  • Staff management experience and experience of providing training to support finance and non-finance staff.
  • Experience in contract negotiations including the NIHR NCVR process.
  • Experience in clinical trial financial management.

Qualifications:

  • Full professional accountancy qualification (CCAB / CIMA member) or passed finalist.
  • Educated to Degree level 2:2 or equivalent.

Skills:

  • Excellent analytical/numeracy skills and ability to interpret and present complex data.
  • Expertise in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and integrated ledger/reporting systems.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels, with all medical and non-medical staff.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, including presentation skills.

Knowledge:

  • Technical knowledge & practical application of financial and accounting procedures, IFRS standards & internal financial controls.
  • Understanding of the wider operational functioning of a complex acute hospital.
  • Understanding & working knowledge of all components of Clinical Research Costing.
