We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our mental health team at HMP Gartree. HMP Gartree is a category B prison based in Market Harborough, housing around 650 patients. You will be working closely with the multidisciplinary team, including an integrated mental health team to deliver psychiatry support to adult males mainly aged 28‑50, most of whom have complex mental health and historic trauma needs.
Hours: 20 hours per week, worked across 2.5 days. The site also offers the option to work a rolling rota with 2 days in one week and 3 days the next. We are also flexible regarding which days are worked Monday to Friday. If you are looking for full‑time work we can offer additional sessions working at either HMP Stocken or HMP Five Wells.
Salary: Annual salary up to £186,480 per annum (FTE) depending on experience.
How we will support you?
You will be part of a team of 15 plus experienced and supportive consultant psychiatrists. You will be able to attend monthly consultant meetings and 1:1 clinical supervision. Bespoke induction, including our Introducing Health in Justice training course. Competency framework.
Candidates are required to have a legal right to work in the UK and, due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.
What you’ll be doing:
- Provide excellent clinical care, assessment and treatment to patients on the caseload onsite.
- Actively participate in the strategic direction of the mental health service, lead senior mental‑health clinicians on service developments and provide clinical supervision.
- Work with the multidisciplinary team to review referrals, determine appropriate treatment plans, conduct risk assessments and engage in multi‑professional complex case reviews.

Qualifications required:
- Registered professional with current registration (GMC).
- Specialist registration in either General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry.
- Approved under section 12(2) of the MHS 1983.
- Understanding of the complexities of multidisciplinary and multi‑agency working.
- Up-to-date knowledge in adult psychiatry and PD.
- Aware of current issues in mental health service provision, policy and legislation.
