We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our healthcare team at HMP Belmarsh, a category A Prison located in South East London. The prison houses around 675 patients with a variety of needs including highly complex and acute mental health.

Within this role you will be supporting a number of high profile patients across general population and 33 bed inpatient ward. You will be joining our experienced integrated mental health team including another Psychiatrist who already works on site.

We are looking for a dynamic Psychiatrist, who can be flexible in the way they work, and adapt quickly. You must be able to build a rapport with both officers and patients, as well as working alongside the matrons to lead the teams.

Hours: 3.5 days a week / 28 hours to be worked between Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, on a job share.

Salary: You’ll receive an annual salary up to £196,840 per annum FTE - depending on experience.

  • You will be part of a team of 20 plus experienced and supportive Consultant psychiatrists.
  • You will be able to attend monthly Consultant's meeting and 1:1 clinical supervision.

Candidates are required to have a legal right to work in the UK and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide excellent clinical care, assessment and treatment to patients on the caseload onsite.
  • Actively participate in the strategic direction of the mental health service, lead the senior mental health clinicians on service developments and provide clinical supervision.
  • Work within the multi-disciplinary team to review referrals, determine appropriate treatment plans, conduct risk assessments, and engage in multiprofessional complex case reviews.

Qualifications required:

  • Registered professional with current registration (GMC).
  • Specialist Registration in either General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry.
  • Approved under section 12(2) of the MHS1983.
  • Understanding of the complexities of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working.
  • Up to date knowledge in the adult psychiatry and PDA.
  • Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy and legislation.
