We have an exciting opportunity for a General Practitioner to join our healthcare team at HMP Lewes, a category B remand prison based in Lewes, East Sussex. HMP Lewes has a fast‑paced healthcare environment delivering care to males aged 18‑65 years with a range of needs including substance misuse and long‑term conditions.
Within this role you will be working closely with our senior nurses to deliver reception care, which includes first‑night prescribing, discharge prescribing, urgent follow up for duty doctor and substance‑misuse prescribing.
This position is part‑time, working 8 hours per week. You will receive an annual salary up to £125,692 per annum FTE – depending on experience.

Our General Practitioners are extremely valued and well respected members of the Prison Healthcare community. As a General Practitioner, your responsibilities will vary. You will:
- Deliver first‑class healthcare to a diverse group of patients; as a practitioner in the Practice Plus Group you get the opportunity to further develop your knowledge within an area you would not usually experience, or even in an A&E environment.
- Provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to meet patients’ requirements and make timely decisions regarding future management.
- Provide a highly specialist resource to other members of the healthcare team at site, and to patients you work with, having active involvement in clinical governance and effectiveness activities.
