We have an opportunity for a General Practitioner to join our Pharmacy team at HMP Garth, a category B men's prison, located in the village of Ulnes Walton, in Lancashire. The site houses around 800 patients aged 21+ with a range of needs including long term conditions, mental health, substance misuse and acute needs.

Hours: 3 sessions per week to be worked Monday 8am-12pm, Wednesday 8am-12pm, Friday 8am-12pm.

Salary: This position is part time working 12 hours per week. You will receive an annual salary between £100,000 and £120,000 per annum FTE depending on experience.

Candidates are required to have a legal right to work in the UK and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.

What you'll be doing:

  • As a member of the Multi‐Disciplinary Team, you will provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to patient’s requirements and make timely decisions regarding future management.
  • Prescribing for patients, regularly review medications and monitor repeat prescriptions.
  • Provide a highly specialist resource to other members of the healthcare team at site, as well as the patients you work with having active involvement in clinical governance and effectiveness activities.
  • Including diagnosis, investigation, treatment and referral as appropriate in line with guidelines and pathways.

We recognise training and development is key, therefore we provide a training portal to facilitate your needs as well as have an in-depth induction for all staff whether you have experience of working in prisons or not. You will gain insight into Mental Health and Substance Misuse, as well as the opportunity to work towards your RCGP level 2.

Qualifications required:

  • MBChB or MBBS
  • Inclusion on the GMC Register and GP Performers List

  • RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse 1 and 2, or prepared to undertake these qualifications
