Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Dental Core Training (DCT1) Programme Director to lead and support the North Wales DCT Scheme. The postholder will contribute to the design, delivery and quality assurance of high-quality education for Dental Core Trainees across North Wales, in line with national DCT standards. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job:

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Lead and manage the North Wales study-day programme.
  • Attend and oversee all scheme study days.
  • Review trainee progress with Educational Supervisors.
  • Support e-portfolio use and remediation.
  • Contribute to national and local recruitment.
  • Participate in RCP processes and act externally if required.
  • Attend postgraduate meetings and working groups.
  • Undertake required CPD, training and PADR.
  • Deputise for the Associate Dental Dean (DCT) when required.

Person Specification:

Qualifications and/or Knowledge:

  • Qualified dental professional and GDC Registered
  • Knowledge of the aims and objectives of Dental Core Training
  • Leadership training
  • Educational Supervisor for DCT

Skills and Attributes:

  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to exercise diplomacy, confidentiality and tact
  • Ability to mediate and negotiate
  • Ability to maintain effective and productive working relationships with colleagues

  • Received training in mentoring, coaching and/or counselling

  • Commitment to work as part of a dental team within HEIW.

  • Able to work flexibly and autonomously when required
  • Able to travel to various locations for study days, meetings, conferences, practice visits etc
  • Ability to speak Welsh (Level 1)

Experience:

  • Previous experience and training in dental clinical and educational supervision role.
  • Experience in training and understanding of recruitment and selection processes
  • Applicants should work in NHS clinical practice (or similar setting)
  • Previous experience in an educational leadership role
  • Previous experience working in a hospital speciality setting
