Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) is the strategic workforce body for NHS Wales. Everything we do is focused on developing a skilled, compassionate, and future ready workforce that improves care for patients and population health across Wales. We’re looking for a Senior Digital Media Officer to play a pivotal role in how we communicate, engage, and connect with our people, our partners, and the wider health and care system. This is a high impact, hands on digital role for someone who combines strong technical expertise with creativity, sound judgement, and the confidence to advise and influence at senior level.

The role As Senior Digital Media Officer, you’ll lead the day-to-day management and development of HEIW’s digital channels, including our bilingual websites, intranet, and social media platforms. You’ll ensure content is clear, accessible, engaging, bilingual, and aligned to organisational priorities, while continually improving quality, performance, and user experience. Working closely with colleagues across Communications, Digital and Data, the wider organisation, and external suppliers you’ll deliver joined up digital campaigns, high-quality content, and measurable impact. The role also includes professional leadership, with day-to-day support to colleagues and deputising for senior managers when required.

What you’ll be doing

  • Digital channels and platforms
    • Managing the daily operation of HEIW’s bilingual website, intranet, and social media channels
    • Working with colleagues and suppliers to develop and improve digital platforms (CMS experience essential, MURA desirable)
    • Supporting platforms such as Gwella and Y TÅ· Dysgu, ensuring alignment with HEIW’s wider digital approach
    • Leading quality assurance, accessibility, compliance, and brand standards across all digital content
    • Overseeing translation processes to ensure timely, high quality bilingual delivery.
  • Content and campaigns
    • Creating engaging digital content, including copy, graphics, video, and animations
    • Coordinating organisational campaigns to maximise consistency, impact, and value for money
    • Managing paid and organic digital advertising campaigns
    • Commissioning and producing photography and multimedia content in line with budget and brand.
  • Insight, analytics, and improvement
    • Monitoring and reporting on digital performance and user behaviour
    • Using analytics, SEO, and keyword planning to maximise reach and impact
    • Turning insight into clear recommendations and service improvements.
  • Leadership, advice, and influence
    • Providing professional guidance and support to colleagues, including Band 5 staff
    • Advising senior colleagues on digital opportunities, risks, and reputational considerations
    • Developing guidance and delivering training on digital content, accessibility, and Welsh language standards
    • Deputising for the Deputy Head of Communications and Engagement, including supervision responsibilities.
    • Staying ahead of digital trends, tools, and platforms
    • Piloting new approaches and formats to keep HEIW’s channels fresh, relevant, and effective
    • Contributing to HEIW’s ambition to be an expert, trusted partner across the system.

You’ll be someone who:

  • Has strong experience managing digital channels in a complex organisation
  • Uses insight and evidence to improve performance and user experience
  • Balances creativity with sound professional judgement
  • Enjoys working collaboratively and influencing at all levels
  • Is motivated by public service and wants their work to make a difference.

We offer:

  • A structured corporate induction and 90 day welcome programme
  • A meaningful, values based appraisal and development process
  • Hybrid working arrangements, with a minimum expectation of office attendance, subject to organisational requirements
  • The opportunity to work on nationally significant programmes that shape the future workforce of Wales

Our values, Respect for All, Ideas that Improve, and Together as a Team, underpin everything we do. We’re proud of the inclusive, collaborative culture we’re re‑building as One HEIW Team.
