Grade II Inspector – Health and Safety Authority (HSA)
Location: Dublin HQ or regional offices (roles may have a national/international remit)
Contract: Full-time, permanent (following an 11-month probationary period)
Salary: €76,202 – €92,931 (Grade II scale, plus long service increments)

About the HSA
Established in 1989, the HSA is responsible for the administration and enforcement of health and safety at work in Ireland. Its remit spans occupational safety, occupational health, and chemicals regulation, and it also acts as Ireland's national accreditation body through the Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB).
The Role
As a Grade II Inspector, your responsibilities could include:
- Managing a team of direct reports and supporting their development
- Carrying out inspections, market surveillance and investigations
- Preparing reports and updates on team performance
- Initiating and developing policy for your assigned sector or legislative area
- Drafting policy and guidance documentation
- Reviewing technical assessments and reports against legislative requirements
- Engaging with national and EU stakeholders, including market surveillance and customs authorities
- Representing the Authority at relevant EU fora
- Conducting research on leading practice and how it applies in an Irish context
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Primary degree (NFQ Level 8) in Engineering, Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Agricultural Science, Operations Management, or a related discipline
- Minimum 3 years' relevant work experience
- Full Category B driving licence
- Demonstrated competencies as set out in the candidate booklet
Desirable:
- Diploma (or higher) in Occupational Safety and Health
- Project management or staff management qualification
- Experience managing staff
- Background in inspection, investigation, policy, enforcement or prosecution
- Knowledge of process safety instrumentation and equipment
- Experience building collaborative relationships to deliver policy priorities
